Album Countdown: Davido, Olamide, Wizkid, Niniola and artistes leaving it late in the year

By Kola Muhammed

If any sign was needed that the music industry had moved on from the pandemic onslaught, the month of August provided it amply.

Burna, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold, Patoranking, DJ Cuppy and Fireboy, among other artistes all dropped albums within the space of two weeks as it seemed as if there was a either a deadline or a competition on the release of albums.

While the past few weeks have witnessed more traffic in terms of singles than albums and EPs, the buzz is not yet over, at least for the year.

The remaining months in the year 2020 promise more albums to come from your favourite acts. Here are some albums to watch out for as the year approaches its business end.

Made in Lagos – Wizkid
The wait appears to be finally over for Wizkid’s album. The 30-year old father of three has already unveiled the cover art for his album (see 7 talking points from Wizkid’s album), suggesting that the announcement of his album release is genuine this time. He already released a single off the album and the remaining tracks are expected to drop on October 15.

A Better Time – Davido
Good, better, best. That’s one way to look at the forthcoming album of David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
His second studio album was ‘A Good Time.’ The third, which is the forthcoming one is ‘A Better Time.’ Perhaps the one after will be ‘A Best Time.’

While Davido has not given a specific date for the release of the album, he hinted that it would be out before 2020 ends.

Carpe Diem – Olamide
Despite having already released an album earlier this year, Olamide ‘Badoo’ Adedeji is apparently not going to allow this fest of music pass him by. The YBNL boss has announced that ‘Carpe Diem,’ his new album is on its way and is expected to be available publicly in October.

‘Colours and Sounds’ – Niniola
Three years after ‘This is Me’ announced her to the world, Niniola Apata, simply known as Niniola, appears ready to get playlists busy again with new songs. Her second studio album which will contain 13 tracks is expected to be out early days in October.

Tekno
Augustine Kelechi, famous as Tekno, has many hit singles to his name including ‘Pana’ and ‘Duro’ but an album has always appeared elusive for the Bauchi-born singer.
While details about the album are yet to be disclosed, Tekno appears intent on releasing his maiden body of work this year. There are speculations that his album will drop in December.

Peruzzi
Born Tobechukwu Okoh, Peruzzi is another artiste who has got hopes high about a forthcoming album. While the singer has been beleaguered with allegations this year, the album, it is believed, will return him to headlines for music reasons. While the singer has remained tight-lipped about his album, it is expected to drop before the year runs out.
